I want quail. As soon as I bought my first chicken, it was the next thing I needed to add to my suburban farm. I haven't found lots of resources on quail keeping, but the common thread seems to say it's like keeping mini chickens and its super easy. Quail eggs are small, but large by the size of the bird they come from.

Fresh greens, tender herbs and quail eggs |
I'm looking forward to doing some research and planning over the winter, picking up my first quail at the end of April! I think I'll get between 4-6 birds, a mix of varieties... which might mean a custom hatch, as not to introduce different ages. I would like some unique varieties but Coturnix seem to be the best producer of speckled eggs. Stay tunned... the quail are coming! Lots of and lots of planning!

I would like some Gambel's quail, but they are less winter hardy. Love this print! |
